Why mining SEO is nothing like retail SEO
Chilean mining buys differently. Behind every search there is a maintenance engineer, a procurement manager or a contractor who needs to solve a concrete problem: a spare part, an on-site service, a supply that meets a standard. These are searches by few people per month, but each one can open a recurring commercial relationship lasting years. Chasing mass traffic in this sector is a mistake: you do not want thousands of visits, you want the ten visits a month that buy.
That changes the whole strategy. Instead of competing for broad, expensive keywords, you go after the technical, geo-targeted long tail. The good news: that long tail has far less organic competition than retail, so a well-built website can rank specific terms in less time than most people expect.
The keywords worth a contract
Three families of searches matter. Transactional ones: “[product] supplier for mining”, “[X] service on site”, “[equipment] spare parts”. Geo-targeted ones, which combine the above with the mining region (Antofagasta, Calama, Copiapó, Iquique, the Atacama Region) because proximity and logistics weigh in the decision. And specification ones: standards, materials, capacities, certifications, which capture the decision-maker while comparing technical options.
The typical mistake is building a single generic “services for mining” page. Each keyword family deserves its own page, in the exact language the buyer uses. One page per product, per service and per region converts far better than a catch-all.
Technical content: your best silent salesperson
In mining, the content that ranks and the content that converts are the same: precise technical information. Spec sheets, compatibility tables, on-site application cases, answers to an engineer's real questions. Google rewards pages that answer a technical search with depth, and the buyer rewards with an inquiry whoever resolved the doubt before they picked up the phone.
All of this rests on a healthy technical base: loading speed, a working mobile version, clear titles and headings, and structured data that explains to Google what each page is. Without that base, the best content stays invisible.
Local signals and industry authority
For Google to associate you with the mining region there are three levers. Consistency of your data (identical name, website and contact everywhere), geo-targeted keywords on your pages by region, and, when you have a verifiable address, a complete Google Business Profile listing. On top of that comes authority: mentions and links from industry directories, mining trade press and partner suppliers. In a technical niche, a few relevant citations are worth more than hundreds of generic links.
GEO: getting AI engines to recommend you on technical queries
More and more decision-makers resolve part of their research in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overview. If your technical content is well structured, those tools cite you as a source when someone asks about a supplier or a solution. It is the natural extension of SEO: the same base that ranks on Google is what gets AI engines to name you. We cover it in depth in our guide to GEO (generative engine optimization).
Mining SEO is neither fast nor massive, but it is one of the best-return channels over the medium term for an industrial supplier: it attracts exactly the people who buy and does not depend on paying for every click. To place this in a broader strategy, see our general guide to SEO strategies for companies or the page on SEO in Chile.
At Estudio Furia we run SEO and GEO as a single system for industrial companies and mining suppliers in Chile. An initial audit sets priorities before you spend a peso on content. Related topics: Google Ads for mining in Chile and SEO for wineries in Chile.
